St. Peter’s supports mission and outreach beyond the Leduc region.
Iglesia Lutherana del Canada - Mission Christiana en Nicaragua
St Peter's member Dan Rondeau has travelled to Chinandega, Nicaragua, three times to volunteer at the Christiana Mission. Looking for something to keep him busy, Dan found an opportunity to put his welding skills to work on an unfinished fence on the property in 2017. He returned in 2018 and in 2020 to work on a variety of fencing and general maintenance projects in and around the mission center.
L.A.M.P. VBS - Hall Lake, Saskatchewan
"In the summer of 2015, Saskatchewan had unprecedented wildfires that affected a number of communities including Hall Lake. My niece was going to assist L.A.M.P. (Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots) with their summer VBS (Vacation Bible School) program that year and she needed an adult to attend. Unfortunately due to the fire, my brother was unable to go with her and I volunteered to go instead. Of course, I couldn't resist the call to serve!
"Throughout my childhood, I looked forward to every summer because of VBS, and even as an adult I enjoy volunteering. The joy of children coming together and praising God through songs and lessons is a very special time. I am passionate about serving others and I have a heart for connecting and being with people. "During my experience at Hall Lake, I taught VBS, connected with members of the community, and began to create relationships with families. I quickly realized the importance of our work with the children and their families. Since 2015, I look forward to spending time out at Hall Lake every summer with our amazing L.A.M.P. team because we get to work alongside the families that we have built a connection with and share God's Word with more people. Through VBS at Hall Lake, parents have become more involved and they are willing to open their hearts and minds to the Word of God, bring their willingness to learn and hear in a community that they are comfortable in. Through the commitment of volunteers, you are able to build a relationship and connection with them. "Some of my favorite opportunities with the community are when we do activities outside of the church because I found that this helps to get to know their passions and interests to strengthen our relationship, build trust and take the love of God to other spaces. I am honored and blessed to have met the families of Hall Lake! Praise be to God for allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies of His work at Hall Lake!" -Chantelle Lysgaard |
Iglesia Luterana Sinodo de Nicaragua - Star of Bethlehem Church
In 2011, a group of volunteers from St. Peter's embarked on a 15-day mission trip to Chinandega, Nicaragua, to serve the people of the La Resistencia area. The team assisted with Vacation Bible School, helped build a church, and connected with community members. In addition, the team brought along and donated several suitcases of much-needed items to the community including toiletries, school supplies, soccer balls, and other items.
